I have got to say, this company has really caught my eye again. Closing at NZ1.64 today it is looking like one of NZX's bargains at the moment.

About NZ$13 million of Auckland Airport shares traded today, a big volume for this stock. Could Infratil , ACC and the NZ super fund be topping up again?

Judging from an article in today's Stuff.co.nz (see attachment below) Auckland Airport looks like they are using a downturn in passenger numbers and therefore revenue to move away from this core business of Airport services.

The downturn in passenger arrivals coincided with the release of a new strategy plan for Auckland Airport by Moutter, himself newly appointed to the job.

The previous management team had responded to the drivers of the day, which was strong and continuing passenger growth, said Moutter. But the dynamic had shifted, and there was huge uncertainty as to when that growth might return. "But if we hunker down and drop everything to the lowest cost base, then we won't be able to capitalise when growth triggers return," he said.

His new strategy concentrates far more on developing the substantial land holdings held by the company. Property, he says, is one area where the airport company had the highest hopes and greatest opportunity of surviving, and even thriving through the recession.

Investors need to beware that when a company with a core business changes tack there can be problems

Close watchers of mine would have noted a renewed interest in Auckland International Airport over the last few days. I have culminated by buying a small additional shareholding of 2000 shares to my existing 1000. Cost NZ$1.70 per share.

Big volumes of this stock have been going through when the share price comes down. $NZ15 million crossing yesterday. Is someone building a stake? I am thinking of adding more to my portfolio. This swine flu nonsense may be a good opportunity for bargain hunters to buy more.

I would imagine that the swine flu will affect passenger numbers coming through, at least in the short term.

Not a holder but keeping my eyes pealed for an opportunity.

I am going to buy 7000 more of these when I get the chance. At under $1.70 or less is the plan. Finished at NZ$1.69 today.

Just my luck when I want to buy the share price of a company always takes off

News out yesterday that Auckland Airport's revenue from retailing might be down around 10% when compared to analysts soothsaying is hardly material given other revenue streams.

This brought out the buyers though, 18 million shares crossed and down 8c a share.

Excellent!

Should be down again today due to American market pressures.

With the Govt looking at relaxing the "Kiwi share" for Telecom it looks like rules around other assets previously deemed "of the national interest" will be similarly affected. I like AIA as a long term bet BUT I wish to have the freedom to sell to ANYONE I want not just who the Govt thinks I should sell to.

Picking up 2000 more AIA shares yesterday at a 52 week low of $1.51 always means the stock price will go down, for me anyway.

The bad news out yesterday (a no brainer by the airport) that international landing fees will be going down by 5% instead of up by 2.5% should help keep a few more planes from deciding not to fly this way.

News out today that Auckland Airport could get a large hotel courtesy of Tanui is good news for the Airport, bad news for other hotel operators and good news for AIA shareholders.

Bought another 2000 shares @ $1.51 this week. Strangely the share price has stayed above my buy price for a week. That could all change next week

A good upgrade in profit for the 2010 year and I have included it in next years Share Investor stock picks...
